Ayodhya: Champat Rai couldn’t answer many questions during the interrogation, now the appointments in the temple are being investigated too 2026 The investigation into the Ayodhya Ram Temple donation theft case has intensified. The SIT questioned the trust’s General Secretary, Champat Rai, for about three hours and recorded his statement. Sources said Champat Rai couldn’t answer many questions. Notices have been sent to around 70 people associated with the trust. The investigation has now reached bank records, employee appointments, CCTV surveillance, and security arrangements.

The investigation into the Ram temple donation theft case is now speeding up. After the case was filed, the police expanded the scope of their inquiry and questioned Ram Temple Trust’s general secretary Champat Rai for about three hours. His statement was recorded after the questioning. Sources said that Champat couldn’t answer several questions during the questioning. At the same time, the police have issued notices to about 70 people, including officials, employees, and other related people connected to the trust. The police involved in the investigation are also examining the management of donations, surveillance arrangements, employee appointments, and banking procedures.

According to sources, during the questioning, Champat Rai was asked several questions about the management of bribes, administrative decisions, employees’ responsibilities, and the resolution of complaints. The investigation officers have recorded his statement, which will now be cross-checked with statements from other witnesses and available documents. If needed during the investigation, he may be called in for questioning again. Officials involved in the investigation say that efforts are now being made to figure out how the bribe theft was possible despite such tight security arrangements.

According to police sources, notices have been sent to about 70 people, including former trust member Anil Mishra and officer Gopal Rao. These are said to include officials, employees, and other people associated with the trust. Besides this, preparations are also underway to record statements from around 140 witnesses. Investigation agencies have also questioned five to six other temple employees. Meanwhile, preparations are being made to question about 30 people related to the counting system and security. Officials believe that without understanding the whole process, a clear picture of the theft cannot emerge.

What all was asked from Champat Rai

According to sources, during the questioning, the investigating officers asked Champat Rai how the monitoring of offerings was managed, who was responsible for the staff, and if there had been any previous complaints, how they were resolved. Sources claim that Champat Rai told the investigators that he had no role in the offering theft incident. He said that as soon as he became aware of the matter, immediate action was taken to catch the suspects and get an FIR filed. He also admitted that the overall responsibility for the safe management of the offerings was part of the trust’s system.

During the questioning, questions were allegedly also asked about the appointment of employees. According to sources, the investigating officers wanted to know on what basis responsibilities were given to relatives or acquaintances. On this, Champat Rai allegedly said that opportunities were given to those in need and that not only his role but also that of other members of the trust was involved in the appointment process.

The investigation reached the bank, asked for five years of records

The SIT’s investigation wasn’t limited to just the temple premises. The investigation team also reached the Ayodhya Dham branch of the State Bank of India. There, five employees including the branch manager were questioned. The police have obtained documents related to the collection process of offerings at the temple.

They have also asked for details of the accused’s bank accounts and bank statements from the past five years. The investigation agencies are trying to find out whether there was any irregularity in the whole process of the offerings reaching the bank. Matching the bank records with the temple’s internal documents is being seen as a key part of the investigation. Officials believe that once the financial transaction links become clear, many questions could be answered.

RMO Arjun Dev, posted in Ayodhya for 17 years, has been transferred

Amid the investigation of the Ram Temple donation theft case, another significant development has come to light. Arjun Dev, a Radio Maintenance Officer (RMO) posted in the wireless department of the Uttar Pradesh police, has been transferred from Ayodhya to Gorakhpur. Arjun Dev had been posted in Ayodhya since 2009, and despite several transfer orders during this time, he continued to stay there. Now, the investigating agencies are also looking into the circumstances under which his long posting in the same district continued.

According to sources, Arjun Dev was also responsible for monitoring the wireless system, CCTV surveillance, and counting room at the Ram Temple complex. This is why the SIT has gathered information on several points related to his role while reviewing the security arrangements. However, so far no investigative agency has officially confirmed any criminal liability against him, and the investigation is still ongoing.
