Bihar: Lalu Yadav gets relief from Supreme Court in fodder scam case, court refuses to cancel his bail 0 The Supreme Court has refused to cancel Lalu Prasad Yadav’s bail in the fodder scam case. The court said that it’s been a long time since the bail was granted, so there’s no reason to interfere. At the same time, it has requested the Patna High Court to complete the hearing on the appeal within six months.
The court rejected this demand and directed the High Court to quickly complete the hearing of the appeal filed against the sentence in this case. Actually, Lalu Prasad Yadav and other accused were convicted in the fodder scam case in 2018. After that, they had filed an appeal against their sentence in court, but this appeal is still pending in the High Court.

Since the case hearing was not completed, the court had granted bail to Lalu Yadav in 2021. At that time, the court had said that he would be allowed to stay on bail until a decision on the appeal comes.

Now, the ED filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding the cancellation of this bail. But the Supreme Court clearly said that it wouldn’t be appropriate to interfere in a bail that has been ongoing for so long.
The court said that it is not willing to intervene in this matter. At the same time, the court directed the High Court to complete the hearing of the appeals filed against the sentences of Lalu Yadav and other accused within the next six months. In this way, the Supreme Court kept the bail intact on one hand and on the other hand also set a timeline for the High Court to quickly dispose of the appeal.
