Xi Jinping’s religious crusade! ‘Uniform Civil Code’ implemented in China 2026 Historic or Dangerous? Xi Jinping Enforces ‘Uniform Civil Code’ in China 2026, Triggering Global Debate
Xi Jinping’s religious crusade! ‘Uniform Civil Code’ implemented in China 2026 /From July 1, a new ‘Ethnic Unity and Progress Promotion Law’ has come into effect in China. This law emphasizes standardizing language, education, culture, and national identity. Critics say this could weaken the distinct identities of Uighurs, Tibetans, and other minorities.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has implemented a law that many experts consider the biggest attempt to enforce ‘one country, one identity’ in the country. The ‘Ethnic Unity and Progress Promotion Law,’ which came into effect on July 1, aims to bring China’s 56 ethnic groups under a single national identity. It’s similar to the uniform civil code that is being discussed in India.
After this new law, the same rules will apply to all ethnic communities living in China. Whether they are Uyghurs, Tibetans, Mongols, or any other community, everyone will first be pushed to see themselves as part of the ‘Chinese nation.’ The government says this will strengthen national unity, while critics say it’s an attempt to erase the distinct identity of minorities.
The biggest change has been made in education. Now, in all government schools, the main medium of instruction will only be Mandarin. Children will be taught lessons that create loyalty towards the Communist Party and the Chinese nation. The law also sets the responsibility of parents to teach their children to love the Communist Party.
‘The lesson of China‘ will even be taught up to the museum-library
Not only that, museums, libraries, and cultural institutions will now also hold programs that promote China’s history, national unity, and the ideology of the Communist Party. Local authorities have also been given the power to plan the settlement of different ethnic communities together. Experts believe that this could also help with relocating people in many areas.
The impact of this law won’t be limited to just China. It says that if a person, organization, or researcher abroad works against China’s ethnic unity or promotes separatism, action can be taken against them too. That’s why human rights organizations have also seen it as China’s ‘long arm’ law.

Attempt to erase the identities of Tibetan, Uyghur, and Mongol communities
UN human rights experts have already warned that this law could affect the language, culture, and religious freedom of Tibetan, Uyghur, and Mongol communities. They say it could weaken cultural diversity in China and try to impose a uniform identity on every community.
However, Xi Jinping’s regime in China rejects all these accusations. Beijing says that this law is not meant to erase anyone’s culture or language, but rather to strengthen national unity and security. But critics believe that Xi Jinping has now turned the ‘one country, one language, one identity’ policy into law, which will increase government control over China’s minority communities more than ever before.
