Now ‘Dalit’ is banned from being spoken and written in government records, Rajasthan Police issued a circular 3
The Rajasthan Police Department has completely banned the use of the word ‘Dalit’ in all its official documents, FIRs, forms, and certificates. Instead, only the term ‘Scheduled Caste’ is now mandatory. This order has been issued via a letter from the Additional Director General of Police, in accordance with the guidelines of the Supreme Court and the central government.

The Rajasthan Police Department has made a significant and big change in its administrative and official terminology. Following the old instructions of the Home Department of the Rajasthan government and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of the central government, the police department has now completely banned the use of the word ‘Dalit’ in speaking and writing in all official circulars, cases, and documents.
An official letter issued by the office of the Additional Director General of Police (Various Cells & SC) has made it clear that from now on, all records, FIRs, forms, certificates, and attestations will only use the terms ‘अनुसूचित जाति’ in Hindi and ‘Scheduled Caste’ in English.
What’s in the issued order?
A circular has been issued by Superintendent of Police (Various Cells) Gyanchandra Yadav to all Director Generals of Police in Rajasthan, Police Commissioners (Jaipur and Jodhpur), and all District Police Superintendents (SP).
This circular refers to old Supreme Court directives and a 2015 order from the Government of India. According to the letter, this step has been taken keeping in mind transparency, constitutional propriety, and established legal rules in government work. The order states that the use of the word ‘Dalit’ should be avoided in any official or departmental communication, and instead, the constitutionally valid term ‘Scheduled Caste’ should be used.

Instructions for accurate translation in regional languages too
Not only that, the circular issued by Rajasthan Police also clarified that it’s not just Hindi or English, but if any document is prepared in any other regional language, it is mandatory to use the translation of ‘Scheduled Caste’ that is most appropriate and constitutionally valid for that category.
This order has been implemented with immediate effect in all the police stations, police offices, and auxiliary departments of the state. The office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Jaipur North, has also forwarded it to subordinate officers and all station officers with instructions to strictly comply.
