UGC-NET: Students angry over poor Hindi translation in Sociology exam, NTA breaks silence Several serious mistakes have been found in the Sociology paper of the UGC-NET exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), including misspelled names, poor Hindi translations, and out-of-syllabus questions. Students have posted their complaints on social media and raised questions about the quality of the paper. NTA has assured an investigation into the matter, but no official complaint has been received yet.

The UGC-NET exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) has once again come under controversy. This time, it’s the Sociology paper that’s in question. Candidates who appeared for the exam held on June 30 have claimed that the paper wasn’t just one or two mistakes, but full of errors. Students are angry about how such carelessness could be shown in preparing the paper for such a prestigious eligibility exam in the country.
What were the shortcomings in the paper?
Students coming out of the exam have registered their complaints on social media and various platforms. According to the candidates, the sociology question paper had the following major issues:
Spelling mistakes: Many words were spelled wrong in the paper.
Wrong names of thinkers: The names of many famous and well-known sociologists were written incorrectly in the question paper, which confused the students.
Bad Hindi translation: The translation done from English to Hindi was so awful that the original meaning of the questions couldn’t be understood.
Grammar mistakes: There were major errors in the structure of the sentences and grammar.
Out of syllabus question: Many questions were completely disconnected and seemed unrelated to the prescribed syllabus.
Students claim that these weren’t just minor typing mistakes, but clearly expose the extreme negligence and sloppy system of the team responsible for setting the paper and doing the quality check.

What did the NTA say about the controversy?
Sources from the National Testing Agency (NTA) have given an official response on this whole matter. NTA sources told the media that minor typing mistakes are not unusual. We got to know about this issue through media reports and social media, and we are seriously investigating the entire matter.
However, the agency has also clarified that, so far, no written complaint regarding this discrepancy has been officially received directly by the NTA from any student.
Students’ demand – review the paper again
Meanwhile, a debate has erupted on social media about the UGC-NET Sociology paper. Students are saying that due to translation mistakes and wrong names, they have lost precious time, and this could directly affect their scores and cut-offs. Candidates are demanding that the NTA should form a committee of subject experts to review the entire paper again and that students should be given bonus marks for the controversial questions.
